I wanted to create an additional color scheme so I just copied an existing one, edited the name and popped it into the directory but it does not show up in the selection under settings.

What do I need to do get Aperture to recognize my new scheme?

You may also have to edit theme-settings.php, and possibly refresh your theme registry (or clearing the site cache).
