This release contains improvements to the core Field UI that have either been proposed for or committed to Drupal 8. For more information, see:

Although this release should work relatively well, it is marked as an alpha release (and therefore not suitable for production websites unless you know what you're doing) because many more changes may be made to the module later on, and there is no guarantee that any of the current functionality of the module will remain (depending on the direction of Drupal 8 development, among other things).
