I prematurely started a thread in the General Discussions here:

Please have a look, lays out a few concerns about Drupal and some specs. Basically the site is a PR7 with approximately 20,000,000 page views per month, is heavily news oriented with embedded media files (photos and video platforms), lots of advertising, Flickr galleries, forums, several branded mini-sites within the domain, and several journalists posting stories, etc. This is a big company with a big budget and will likely be the highest profile site built on Drupal, if it goes that direction (beyond MTV.uk).

Whether Drupal is or is not the right platform, I am looking for very talented programmers and designers in the Southeast US who would be interested in the project. If you have the talent and drive, please send me your resume, portfolio, and rates. The development project will take approximately six months, and there will be a retainer for ongoing maintenance and development.

Sounds like a fun project, we are current building a media site with Drupal that will support 100,000,000 page views per month.

If we can be of assistance please give us a call.

We have experience in Drupal scalability to large numbers of concurrent users. This includes experience in load balancing, MySQL configuration, and PHP tuning. We can also forecast with quite high accuracy how increasing system load through users or data will affect performance and hardware needs.

I've personally developed and managed the following sites within the past month:

Thanks for everyone's feedback. A decision is close to being made, and the Drupal argument is becoming more and more realistic. If my client does make this move, they will likely stay with their current developer as the lead and hire consultants with expertise as needed.

I hope it works out, I'd love to see another major site support Drupal.
