If commerce_sp is installed in an environment where commerce_features is not installed, the subscription product is not created. See #1286512: Add commerce_features as a dependency.

This thread says this has been fixed but I just had this exact problem on a brand new install. I used the 1.1 version. Am I missing a dev version?

It's committed, but has not made it into a release yet. We should probably roll 1.2 once the date.module problem is sorted out.
