Problem/Motivation
- There is currently no standard method for community initiatives to identify and delegate tasks. Potential contributors are both hindered because they cannot see how to match their skills/interest with community needs, and often, they cannot find who to contact when they do want to participate.
- Community initiatives span multiple projects, and require a range of skills to achieve their objectives.
Proposed resolution
- The objective of this is to create a landing page as a main point of contact and information about cross-functional community initiatives.
- The landing page proposed in this issue will contain calls-to-action to attract contributors, and keep current contributors informed as to what is happening "right now".
- This issue is part of the Roadmap: Community/support/getting involved redesign
Remaining tasks
- What fields need to be included?
- Identify skills/interest areas
- How will issues be aggregated into the initiative page? Webchick proposes pulling in related issues based on a unique tag (for that initiative).
User interface changes
Users on Drupal.org will be able to add new community initiatives
Potential participanten will be able to search based on skills areas and search for community initiatives and facet the searches.

heather commentedThis came from a conversation between Lisa Res, Angie Byron (webchick) and myself.
1) Potential contributors can arrive on the pages after identifying their interest areas, and looking at a sorted result of related initiatives.
2) The initiative landing page is a content type. The purpose of the form is to force including key information about the community initiative, and make the contributor involvement more apparent. This is a rough sketch of what it could look like:
3) Design of the content type. What to include as fields?
- Who is involved (who to contact for X topic/interest area/sub-project).
-- what they are accountable for, and best method of contact.
- Objective or purpose of initiative
- IRC channel
- g.d.o link
- Standing meetings
- Unique initiative tag (this pulls in the related issues from the queue, with their status).
Also see - Research into other OSS community "getting involved" areas is ongoing. Add screenshots and findings to: http://groups.drupal.org/node/174989

heather commentedLisa recommended I move this to webmaster queue!
Removing the word "landing" because it's confusing w the other landing pages.
