Is -dev useable in a production context?

Will there be any more work to make this a full release?

I have not completely given up on this module, but currently it is at the very low end of my priority list. And that's a very bad place to be.

The module has started as a fun and proof-of-concept thing, but I have yet to see anyone who does actually request this kind of feature, or who would be willing to pay money for it.
I have absolutely no real-world use case.

Status:
The module used to work, but I have not tested it yet with the API changes in the Crumbs 2.x branch.
Probably I need to change a few lines of code, to make it work with the new API.

If you are interested in the module, and you have made yourself familiar with the Crumbs 2.x API, then it's probably not too hard to fix the module.

However, there is usually some "babysitting" to do: Compatibility with themes, etc.
There are so many families of themes (Zen, etc), and each introduce their own custom breadcrumb logic and CSS. It is impossible to produce a module like Crumbdown, that does work with all of these.

Should you use it on a production site?
You can give it a try, if
- you really have a strong desire or need for the functionality
- you are ready to do some troubleshooting and customization, "the hard way".
- you are familiar enough with Crumbs.
