When you install Drupal the front page has some default text on it.

I have searched the code, searched the database - where is this text kept - so I can edit it.

I do not want to install a module to change th front page - no need for it.

I just need to edit the text on the default page -the basic text on the home page after an install.

Thank you

Simply add a new node and bring it to front page. Alternatively you can set frontpage to be a node.

create a page say home.

Than go to Admin->settings and put "home" in main page option.

i am surprised that my front page does not change...cant figure out the reason why. i made 5 stories..and promoted them to front page..as webmaster..i c them on the front page..but as a visitor or as a logged in user..no change..

could it be becoz of cac lite module...i cant also see the settings for it.

It's quite annoying, isn't it? Not to blame anybody or even complain.

I've tried replacing "node" with "node/80" and various other nodes as the front page, but when I do, the logged out user gets "Page not found".

what other modules are in use ? only an access module could be the cause of what you are seeing, which points to a module installed and removed which screwed up the node access table, an access module installed and not set up properly, or incorrect permission settings.

Hi. That's fast.

I'll check. But as I recall, it's just a basic 5.1 installation at the moment. Certainly my database is very basic.

then it has to be a permissions issue. have you given the anon users access to see content ? in administer -> access control ?

is there anyting at the top of administer -> post settings that tips you off to the node access module being in disaray?

Just rebuilt the node access table in post settings. All clear now. Thanks a billion.

for what its worth, you don't need the legacy.module enabled if it is.

I'm having the same problem but can't find a solution. Yes, anonymous users can clearly access content. Yes, I have rebuilt posts. Yes, I have published and promoted content to the first page. You can see everything as it is supposed to be if you login as an authenticated user. But all non-logged in users get this same page:

"Welcome to your new Drupal website!
"Please follow these steps to set up and start using your website:" (yadda, yadda, yadda, ...)

This paragraph, being clearly untrue for me, is particularly aggravating: "Finally, you can create content for your website. This message will disappear once you have promoted a post to the front page."

Grrrr!
