Media provides a method for collecting local or remote multimedia assets. Local assets are handled by the core Media module and remote assets are handled by the Media Internet Sources module included with Media.

Supported media

Media supports uploading or referencing, from external sources, multimedia files.

See the Supported media page for more information on local media, remote media and media providers.

File types

Media automatically assigns multimedia a type, based on what kind of file it is. These types include:

  • Audio
  • Image
  • Video
  • Other

*Note that Media does not currently provide an interface for managing types or configuring which file extensions belong in which type.

See the File types page for more information on configuring file types and their fields.

File display

Media does not support displaying multimedia files out-of-the-box.

Each file type contains at least one field: the multimedia file. Individual Media module plugins, as well as the modules they integrate with, handle the display of multimedia files.

See the File display page for more information on configuring the display of multimedia files.

WYSIWYG integration

Media provides inline multimedia insertion functionality to a number of client-side WYSIWYG editors via the WYSIWYG module.

See the Media WYSIWYG Integration page for instructions on how to integrate Media with WYSIWYG.

Comments

Media Documentation

This explanation is not all useful for beginners.
Jargon:
"inline multimedia insertion functionality"
"collecting local or remote multimedia assets" What does it mean to collect an asset?

Examples are more worthwhile.
