It's published under the Apache license, but code on drupal.org is required to be GPLv2. Drupal got jquery to publish under gplv2 so they could package it and distribute it together.
Modules usually get around this by requiring people to download an extra library and stick it somewhere.

rszrama commentedWe'll just use the Libraries module and instruct users to download the PHP client library to their sites/all/libraries directory. I can't imagine we'll be going to Google to get them to publish under a separate license. : D
