Possible to display $messages outside of page.tple.php -> ie inside of contemplates body?

Is this possible?

i only want to show the $messages variable in certain instances, i would like to put it inside the $content piece which is defined inside of contemplates. The reason i need to move it because the way i havemy template setup, the framework is set inside the content peice.

is this possible?
