I am sure I must be missing something obvious here?
I have installed and configured mobile tools as documented I have two themes, garland and mobile garland, I have two url's www.jeremythings.co.uk and m.jeremythings.co.uk.
If on my adroid phone I go to m.jeremythings.co.uk, I get the garland theme, if I go to m.jeremythings.co.uk/admin I get the mobile garland theme (obviously with access denied). It seems the theme switching works with any admin pages but not with any of my 'normal' pages.
I have spent several hours on this and tried all combinations and all recommendations from the support site but still no joy.

If anyone could help with this I would be very grateful, even if it is just 'read this' or 'you should have done that' etc.

I was hoping someone could help, not to worry we have moved away from Drupal for Mobile content, would have been nice to have got it working :-(

I have the domains, similar to your case, www.example.com and m.example.com with a different theme. It works pretty well with mobile detection by sending a mobile user to m.example.com

On the first settings page I check "Enable automatic redirection of the mobile user" and on the Theme switching page I check "Switch theme based on the URL" instead of "Switch theme for a mobile device". If you could post a screenshot of your settings I will have a look at it.

The settings look good and it seems to be doing the right thing. Have you tried using a different theme so we can rule out the theme being the problem, I am using http://drupal.org/project/mobi for mobile theme.

Thanks,

I tried fusion mobile as well as mobi with the same results

If I go to http://m.jeremythings.co.uk/admin i get the mobile theme, but if I go to http://m.jeremythings.co.uk/essays I get the garland theme

Interesting. All the 403 pages are loading the right theme. I really can't tell what it is.

Are your pages cached?

If you login here http://m.jeremythings.co.uk/user and hit http://m.jeremythings.co.uk/admin, do you see the mobile theme or garland?

Logging on gives me with the garland theme but hitting /admin switches to mobile theme,

I tried various cache settings but to no avail
In the file mobile_tools_cache.inc there is the following comment:

/**
* @file mobile_tools_cache.inc
* This files allow to override the default drupal cache in order to support theme switching based
* on device type and device group.
*
* In order to enable this file, add the following to your settings.php file
* $conf['page_cache_fastpath'] = FALSE;
* $conf['cache_inc'] = './sites/all/modules/mobile_tools/mobile_tools_cache.inc';
* );
*
*/

I have tried tried this, I assume the ); is not required?

One other thing is that I am using lighttpd and am wondering if that could be a problem, I have an old version of this site using Apache and I will try this to see if this is an issue.

This user, jeffnine, has worked a lot with mobile themes and is current on considerations for mobile themes with D7. You could contact him directly and/or request his reply to this post for everyone's benefit.

You might also try contacting him through his home website. He is a member of my local Drupal users' group, and I've heard him talk about building mobile Drupal themes. In fact, I contacted him already about this thread, but you can try again. He is a busy developer with a full inbox.

Any headway with this?

Not yet, I have been tied up with some other work, I will contact the user suggested and will also test on an old Apache site that was used before switching to Lighttpd to see if that has anything to do with it.
