I'm not sure if this is a Mail System issue or not, but when a new user creates a site account, submitting the registration form simply loads the front page without a status message. Not until the new user clicks the confirmation link in the system email does this feedback display: "An email has been sent with instructions for confirming your account" - on the page explaining that they need to set a password. (In other words, they are told about the confirmation email after they've received and acted on it.)

Any ideas what is going on here?

Can you enlighten me with your solution? I have the same problem. I create the account and get redirected to the front page without any confirmation message. The e-mail is sent though, that all works fine, but just like when you mistype your password, i'd like to have a green box with the message 'An e-mail has been sent ... etc'.
