Hello guys.
We want to build a new site that will include a directory of businesses. Let's say - a list of hotels. I'm using Drupal on other sites, so I thought Drupal will be interesting here. I know about the CCK module, so I thought that I can make a content type 'hotel', with required fields, and then I'm set to go, almost.
The problem is that I'm not sure what to do about locations - obviously I need to give a location for each 'entry' - at least 'city' and 'country'. Using taxonomy is not good, because I'll have a huge list that wouldn't be managable.
Are there any other solutions using Drupal? I looked at the location module, but it seems to be only for the US/Canada. I also want users to be able to browse (find hotels in this country and this city)... And the browse needs to be 'incremental' (i.e. first choose a country, then a city).
Any help will be appreciated!
Ron.

Anyone?
Anyone? I'm really stumbled...
Might be I better off with some other CMS? It's a shame, I really like Drupal...

how about this?
would you be interested in something like this:

I'm trying to put together enough people together to actually pay someone out there to come up with a decent business directory module.
Hmmmm.
CS,
Thanks. I've actually decided to give up on Drupal and try to use Joomla. It seems to have better support for locations (i.e. country/city for each business entity). I've not started with Joomla yet, and I do like Drupal. But that thread seems old - I guess this will take a long time, and I can't wait.
I can't believe this thing is not built into Drupal - the ability to attach location to each page or story or object. It seems so basic. It's like e-mail subscription - I can't believe you can't do it in Drupal easily.
Shame, because otherwise Drupal is great.

well, I guess they didn't
well, I guess they didn't think of EVERYTHING (especially marketing/sorting side of things) when they were building the core and modules...
Let me know if you work that out in Joomla, as I might be interested in switching camps if that's much easier to do in Joomla.
I'll keep you updated...
CS,
Sure, I'll keep you updated on my Joomla trials. I got a book to help me get the grip on it, so I'm waiting for the amazon package. Installation was easy, and the control panel of Joomla is beautiful. Looks much more professional than Drupal's. The problem is that everything is called different, so it's hard to understand at first.

Interested to hear how your experiment goes with Joomla.
I agree that this is a feature that Drupal needs. I'm doing to to some extent with taxonomy, but it's tedious and will eventually be difficult to manage.
