#34496: [meta] Add Flag module to allow users to subscribe/unsubscribe without posting a comment is now code-complete and we're in a period of public beta testing. See http://3281d.com/2011/10/08/death-of-subscribe-comments-is-near for more on that. The current plan for live deployment to production is ~10am PDT on Tuesday 2011-10-11. I'd like to schedule a front page news announcement for that day to a) announce and document the changes, b) thank the sponsors and contributors and c) provide some background on how this was done (since a lot of folks have been wondering about the fate of this effort).
Before I spend too much time drafting, I wanted to get confirmation that I can publish something like this on the d.o front page so that I write it with the appropriate tone, etc. If not, it'll just have to be a Drupal Planet blog post (which is okay, but obviously a lot less visible).
Should I create an unpublished forum node about it for drafting?
Thanks,
-Derek

sunA node to ask for whether it's okay to create a node? Seriously?
By now, everyone eagerly awaits the changes. Additionally, I've yet to see a post by @dww that wouldn't get published to the front page. That's not because of @dww posting, but the combination of @dww and his awesome work.
In short: Go for it!

dwwThanks for the vote of confidence, sun. ;) However, the draft isn't even done yet, and I wouldn't mind some reviews/copy editing/etc before it goes live. ;) But, I at least added this to the http://drupal.org/front-page-schedule page (and updated it about current img handling on d.o).
When I have a node that's ready for reviews/edits, I'll post the link here and set this to needs review.

Currently unpublished. I'm hoping to publish and promote this ASAP. I'll try to track down some folks in IRC...

sunHow about this: Post-mortem: +1 subscribe
What has changed?
You had to comment on an issue in order to keep track of it in the past, commonly done by posting "+1 subscribe". Popular issues gained plenty of such comments, making it hard for contributors to distill the important and useful information in an issue.
You are now able to "follow" issues by clicking a button, without commenting on them. You can also "unfollow" issues, on which you happened to comment, but are not really interested in. Lastly, you can now configure for which projects and issues you want to get e-mail notifications.

xjmI think adding a summary with the header "What has changed?" is a good idea. We could break the specifics sun lists out into a
<ul>to make it more scannable.I don't have access to read the unpublished post, but are there screenshots of the follow button?

lisarex commentedI've also given it a thorough review with dww and silverwing in IRC.
The current revision (still unpublished), with sun's intro, will be great!

dwwThanks for the review, sun! Mostly folded in your suggestions. Now published on the front page:
