Update Status is not retrieving information and I see this error in my logs:

Update Status: Error 0: 13 Permission denied
Hostname: 70.127.192.240

The available updates page reads:

No update data is available. To fetch data, you may need to run cron.

Any ideas?

I have no idea what might cause this; my best guess is that your host has PHP configured in such a way as to prevent the XML RPC call.

We're not supporting the 5.x-1.* series any more. All effort is going towards a 5.x-2.0 release so we can move this into core before the D6 code freeze. Please try the 5.x-2.0-beta release and see if your problems go away.
