This chapter discusses initial configuration and module setup. It does not go into detail about creating products, setting up a catalog, managing and fulfilling orders, or anything similar. For tasks like that, please refer to the specific chapters on those topics.

The very first thing you should do after installing Ubercart and enabling the modules is to look at each and every configuration setting under Administration » Store » Configuration (admin/store/settings). Yes, each and every one. While you're going through them, you will see quite a lot of information that needs to be filled out - information about your store location, your store e-mail address, information about what format you want to use to display prices, information about tax rates and shipping methods.

This exercise is important for two reasons:

  1. To enter the information necessary for Ubercart to work properly, and
  2. To make yourself familiar with all the configuration options.

The default configuration options are a good starting point; don't change them unless you understand what they do. However, a lot of the options need you to enter some information specific to your store, like your store name, which don't have any default values.

The following sections document the store settings in more detail. A lot of the settings forms in Ubercart contain explanatory text, so your primary source of information about the settings should come from the forms themselves. The documentation below should serve more as a reference than a tutorial for getting started.
