Jeff Burnz commentedWow, cool, thats extremely close to what I was thinking - using Field Collection and Bean, but not Views - I hadn't considered views so I will try out your module, what I want is something I can push with my contrib themes that is responsive and pretty easy to setup, I have hacked support for a FlexSlider slideshow into one of my themes buts its rank (it just uses the Nodes in block module), really needs a module, thanks for the heads up.

adamdicarlo commentedCool, sure!
I investigated Views Slideshow Cycle module's code earlier today with the intent of hacking it up to turn it into a FlexSlider version but there is sooo much code there, I decided not to do it. It would take a ton of work and I'm not sure there would be a big advantage to it being a Views Slideshow plugin.
In terms of To Views or Not To Views, I think it'd be more flexible for non-developer users of the module to have a Views based slideshow, because they can, say, add fields to the slide entity and override the view if they like.

john_b commentedIs os_slideshow a live project still, with a future?
The world of Drupal slideshows is confusing. I have been using Dynamic Display Block. But this project looks interesting.

Jeff Burnz commentedJohn_B, this project will be deleted soon, the one you want to look at is http://drupal.org/project/flexslider

john_b commentedThanks Jeff.
Not sure if it integrates with Bean, which a recent blog post drew my attention to http://thinkshout.com/blog/2012/06/sean/introducing-relevant-content-bean
It would really useful if the slideshow comparison http://drupal.org/node/418616 could be replaced from scratch just for D7 by someone who has actually tried at least a few of the options.
Anyway, since I always default to an Adaptive Theme, be it free, premium, or custom sub-theme, I will try your recommendation next time I make a slideshow.

adamdicarlo commented@John_B os_slideshow is superseded by Bean Slide.
