I think that i18n page views (http://drupal.org/project/i18_page_views) module is a good improvement and a very good candidate module to integrate into i18nviews. When we're developing a new i18n web site, this is a module that help us a lot.

I consider the module unneeded once the active menu issue has been resolved with aliases.
It's quite a common need to juggle with aliases to make views (with IDs and arguments) perfectly shiny.
