At the moment, Commons doesn't notify me (the user) when another Commons user comments, likes, shares, etc. my content (statuses, posts, comments, etc.). I have to read through my activity stream and scan for any new interactions, which can be very time consuming.

It would be great if a visual notification was available similar to Google Plus and Facebook. This would help increase the interaction between community users and encourage user feedback.

Also, activity digest emails are not being sent, but that's another issue. :)

You should be able to get notifications to comments by subscribing to your own content. Likes and shares are not part of Commons, so that integration will take work. I'm not sure if a social sharing module is on the roadmap.

Likes and shares are part of facebook style statuses which are part of Commons (2.x). Having said that, perhaps we ought to be able to Like a post if we can Like a status message.

To be honest, I think Commons is a social sharing module ;-)

Perhaps #1297292: Add a system of recording and display alerts (i.e. "7 new notifications") is what you're looking for? I'm not sure what you mean by "social sharing." Also FBSS has Notifications integration but due to various limitations of Notifications that's not really a great solution.
