New theme recipe, overview, or tips

It would be very nice if someone knowledgeable with Commons use of Fusion and commons_roots could very briefly discuss the "gotchas" regarding alternative themes.

For example, I would like to use adaptive theme base and take advantage of their layout changes based on the client device; iPhone for example.

I would expect Context to create some issues, and there are likely preprocess functions in template.php to handle, but there could be much more.

It would be nice to know if it is possible or reasonable to consider and the big areas to deal with. A few lines of text may save the adventurous a lot of time and frustration.
