you may be trying to use the keywords 'chat block' or 'chat module' in order to help people find this module but it is hardly a chat module--it lacks way too many features to be considered a genuine chat (e.g. in comparison to irc-style chat rooms).

this isn't to say that the module you currently have is not useful in it's simplicity. quite the opposite--it is a wonderful Shoutbox, which is exactly what I needed it to be. so, instead of chatblock.module, I propose you name it the Shoutbox.module for Drupal. It is a more conventional name that will probably get you more relevant traffic and interest in developing/refining it into the best it can be.

I believe there is already a module called shoutbox in the downloads area.

I'm not going to change the name of this module, although the point is well taken. Shoutbox is unfortunately taken as has been mentioned, and I was trying to emphasize the block nature of this module. Shoutblock might have been better, but many users don't know what a 'shoutblock' is.
