Instead of only having one "migs" payment method, it can be separated out to visa, mastercard, diners and amex. This allows the card selection screen to be bypassed on the payment gateway (reducing the number of checkout steps), as well as the ability to use modules such as http://drupal.org/project/uc_pma to add different surcharges/discounts for different payment types. Even with separate payment methods there is still only one area where migs gateway options are set. The only settings that are specific to individual payment method are the title of the payment method, as well as if to display an icon.
