Description
I have reviewed the various node access modules - yours seems to approximate best what I need: at time of submitting new content, a drop-down list of all users so the content would be viewable by user(s) selected in that drop-down list only. So my feature request would be to replace the check-box, marking the new node as private for the user submitting the content; to a drop-down list, allowing the author to mark the content private for another user (ideally many other users).
The context where this feature would be useful is explained in this forum post. Many thanks for letting me know if this is very complicated... or not! (I can't do this since I'm not a programmer)

Well, I would not really appreciate, as you request: "... to replace the check-box ...". The way it is works great for me and I have already implemented it in production.

Lanny: hey - no problem; I understand that; the objective of the feature request (it's not criticism) is only to point out a feature that would still allow you to achieve your objective, but also achieve other objectives... It was just a feature request, no harm done I hope ;-) Thansk for your contributions, I wish I could do the same! Cheers -patrick

If it's set,
it can only be seen by the node author,
or users with the 'see all private nodes' permission,
or another user (ideally many other users).
That could resolve problems when one (or few) kind of punctual node need to be reviewed (e.g. article) when all others frequent are not (forum, comment...). Editors could have access to the node and edit the node access parameters to attribute it to few users-reviewers. Author, reviewers and editor(s) can communicate with the internal contact form or a private area into the forum (or comment??? I have never try to comment, does it functions?).
In my humble point a view, these two levels of access are complementary and the module could resolve simply a lot of reviewing (scientific, teacher, pupils peer-review...) and access situations.
I can add another feature request that could appear out of the scope of the module. Is is possible to let the user-reviewers anonymous to the author?
Congratulation on your works,
Sincerely.

I agree that this functionality would make this simple module extremely powerful.
I would like to further request that instead of a select list (which could get very long) instead we have an auto-complete list, like the the free tagging taxonomy box which auto-couplet tags, instead this would auto-complete users. I believe there is already a CCK module which allows freeform tagging of users which might be of help.

This module is not meant to do what you describe. It is very simple...and meant to do only the simple things that it currently does.
