There is no way to do that atm, as the jquery plugin (jquery.autopager.js) doesn't allow adding effects.
May be if we decide to move to a different plugin, or write custom js code.
Definitely a +1 on this. Something like Views Load More is doing. Ideally, it seems like we should get to the place where we can lazy load content without it feeling choppy or noticeable.
