Add Frisian language to l.d.o

Great initiative. Meant is the Western Frisian language ('Frysk' in own language, 'Fries' in Dutch). This is one of the four official languages in the Netherlands (Dutch government policy on offical languages). In the province of Fryslan are Dutch and Frysk the official languages to contact the government.

At the moment there is one Drupal website that has implemented a Frisian version: Fries UITburo (the official regional culture calendar). As soon as this translation is available, more might follow.

ISO-code
The ISO code is fy. according to wikipedia:

ISO 639-1 code fy and ISO 639-2 code fry were assigned to "Frisian", but that was changed in November 2005 to "Western Frisian".

@gabor et all, is there anything we still need to open a translation team account?

1. It would be best to check the W3C language tag checker, not the ISO codes to ensure we are using the right language code.
2. We'd need the plural formulas for the language to technically add it (more at http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/l10n/pluralforms).
3. Do you have a number of people working on this? Its hard to make out from the comments here.

1. if I look at BCP47 'fy' looks correct. See http://rishida.net/utils/subtags/index.php?lookup=fy&submit=Look+up 'fy' is also used by Wordpress (http://fy.wordpress.org/). Western Frisian is also mentioned in this article about BCP47: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/bcp/bcp47.txt

Other Frisian language tags are: frr (Northern Frisian - spoken in Germany by 10.000 people), frs (Eastern Frisian, spoken in Germany by 2.500 people), ofs (Old Frisian, not spoken anymore). Western Frisian is spoken in the Netherlands by 440.000 people.

3. We are with 3 people (including me - actually my in-law family). The Fries UITburo plans to install i18n_client and i18n_update. As Western Frisian is a minority language spoken by 440.000 people and most speak Dutch as well, it will certainly not become the most exhaustive translation of Drupal :) The front end translation donored by the Frisian UITburo is a good enough for most cases. With Anne I am in contact with some organisations and governments to organise an event when we have the translation online.

Thanks silverwing. We recently had a meeting with Afuk, the organisation for the Frisian language and they welcomed this initiative.

Who will be the the team manager of this translation team?

At the moment I am coordinating this initiative, so you can add me as the team manager.

I've created the team at http://localize.drupal.org/languages/fy and made Hanno the initial owner / admin. You can add any number of other admins and manage group level permissions of people.

Please report issues as you find them. Your team members can now join and help import existing translations and work on more translations. Anybody can sign up for being a member of the team and they will be able to submit suggestions right away. The initial admin can change permissions of people signing up, widening their capabilities. See http://localize.drupal.org/node/616 for explanation on how. It is highly suggested to grant both moderation permissions to those who you also designate admins.
