For my latest D6 site I installed this D6 version before the installation in stead of the regular D6 version. I like the automatic updates of (module) translations and the easy update of untranslated strings very much.
I have a bunch of D6 sites without 10n_install. Is it possible just to copy the l10n files over the regular D6 files to upgrade to l10n for each D6 site to have all the advantages?

You can just install l10n_update module on top of your existing site and start to use it. It will not be as "clean" as starting with l10n_update but it should give you comparable results.
