consistent error being reported by audio module upon upload

The error is as follows:
The selected file could not be copied, because no file by that name exists. Please check that you supplied the correct filename.

The above error occurs in 5.x-1.0 and in 5.x-dev.
Oddly enough the file is actually still uploaded and functional even though the error message claims the file can't be moved. I can't figure out what is tripping the error message. The public download method is being used in this case.
