Notice that all the username links on the site have favicon-style shrinked versions of the usernames?

I know the CSS involved uses background-image so browser-side resizing is out of the question. This would require an automated generation of 16x16 thumbnail versions of all the user icons. This could be done with PHP's built-in image functions I think.

Truely a nice feature.
But from my point of view it has nothing to do with URL Icon module.

Perhaps it's even more a themeing issue, as it could be done by overwriting theme_username().
Any other ideas? - We could do a new module for this feature.

I'm gathering all my ideas and notes on this and my friend Julian of the Diff and Wikitools fame coded a node-type icon scheme for his site. It will also have an option to augment Menu links in sidebars to give a more iTunes-esque feel. Where would be the best node to discuss this promising project?
