Is there a pagination equivalent for D7?

Hello,

I've been battling with various pager modules for a few days now and none of them do what I need them to do. I need a simple module that will allow me to specify the number of words or sentences in the content area of my node that can be shown before the user must click on a next button to flip to the next page to continue reading. Is there a way of doing this in D7? Pagination Node is perfect for what I need but it isn't for D7. Is there a work around? The key is that I want to specify the amount of copy to appear in each node so that the pager knows how to divide up the content.
