I think it would be a great feature to provide an opportunity to show the avatar of the buddy in the buddylist. It would be nice, if the user could choose (radio-buttons?) whether he wants to see the name or the avatar or both of them.

If http://drupal.org/node/152240 gets committed then the avatar display becomes easy to do in the theme layer.
