This might be another obvious answer that I'm just not seeing but it looks like this module is actually a fork of uc_views. Not a standalone module.

Since, like most installations, I'm already using uc_views should I be replacing it with this code?

Wouldn't it be better to design this module as an add-on or work to have it committed to uc_views?

Sorry for the slow reply - too much else going on and I didn't notice your post until now.

I wasn't thinking of it as a fork, but perhaps it is. What's more, the project for which I was working on this is now on hold, so I won't be taking it any further for the moment. Did you end up finding the code useful and/or developing it further? If so, perhaps we can promote it to a full project and you can take it over?
