Hi, starting the summer i am in charge of the engineering student society website at my university.

We will be buying a new server which we will be moving the website over too and i have chosen drupal as our cms.

The main goals of the year are to
1.Set up the site so our executive members can log in and update the news on the main page without having to go through me

2.All our images are cluttered, we want to be able to make picture slide shows that our users can access ( pictures from various events we hosted)

3. Add a forum.

I was just wondering if drupal has the modules for these, or if anyone can link me to the tutorials
otherwise i will be stuck using picasso and Vbulletin for goal 2 and 3 :(

Installation shouldnt be a problem as we have people who have installed drupal before. I just find the module pages confusing

i forgot to mention. The current one i was looking for to allow our exec to update the news is

And i was looking at the forum module, however i wasnt able to find much commenting about it so i am unsure

There are several forum modules under the downloads section including vBulletin integration.

There are also several image modules that might get you close to what you want.

You can probably set up the security you want by playing with the built in security with Durpal, but there are also tons of other security modules available for download as well.

I would suggest playing with a test copy of Drupal and downloading several module until you get the set up you want.

First off for 3, check out the forum module which is included with core and used for the forums here on Drupal.

For 2 there are a number of choices. There is the image module which along with image_assist can serve as a good starting point. There are also the Slideshow and Slideshow creator modules (I have not tried either).

Is there anything anyone can suggest for my first requirement regarding giving certain people privelages to update the content on the main page?

You can give them access rights to create any kind of content and promote that content to front page.
