right now...i got alway this:
System program "mysqldump" not found in $PATH. Please check with your sysadmin for further assistance.
and the patches (for 5.x-1.x) don't work. any ideas?

Please check with your sysadmin like the message says. :-) As far as I can tell, the issue is a configuration issue on the machine in question.

For what it's worth, I also have sysadmin background. If you can provide me with a shell account on the machine in question, I'll be happy to help you troubleshoot the problem. Please drop me an email if you are interested and we can set something up.
