Would it be a big workaround towards making the module instead of a cck a tag library? I seek to post content by ISSN but it would be nice to have all similar content bundled by ID, aka a tag... And validation would still be needed!

SO I try to explain it again;

instead of a taxonomy where all the ISSNs are already defined, to allow only tags which are properly formated ISSN strings, or otherwise fail? So that in principle any thinkable ISSN would be allowed without having to predefine them...

The nice thing then would be to be able to sort all content by (valid) ISSN. It it is just CCK I can't index my content on it, can I?
