I am desperately searching for a module or modules that will assist with the following.

1. Ability to creating a directory of links in order by country, state, etc.
2. Ability to creates articles about specific locations and list them in some sort of directory.

Can anyone help me out with that please?

1. Look at the Views module to sort nodes by nearly an criteria.
2. If you add a taxonomy field to your content type, you can tag your articles with locations and then filter to show only that location.
