Unfortunately, I don't have any impetus to get a backport working, and it would be a little more work than I have time for anyways :-/

However, I'd think about adding a feature request over on the official FullCalendar project; this sandbox has been deprecated, since the Colors part of FullCalendar is now in the core module repository.
