Is it possible to only show the node content (-region) instead of the whole page (as it does now in my case)?
If so: how can this be achieved?

rdentry commentedI've found that you can create a "content-type" specific page.tpl.php which you can strip out all regions aside from content. Not the easiest approach i'm sure, but it does work.

rajmataj commentedDepending on your theme (I'm using Omega), you can achieve this using the Delta and Context modules.
