If MBP is installed and working fine and you enable a different module you will find that the browser on media fields won't show the thumbnails.
If it's a multivalue field, there is no problem.

Clearing all caches sometimes get rid of the problem. Don't know why.
I've had this problem on my non test-setup also. The problem also sometimes vanished.
