I just attended DrupalCamp Austin and saw 2 presentations on apps and I love the idea for apps. I think it is a missing ingredient for Drupal that will be perfect for non-technical consumers of Drupal. I have been working on creating a couple of sample apps and trying out the appserver as well and have run into the issues listed as well.

I'd love to volunteer to be a guinea pig for this project and would be happy to contribute any documentation that I can as well as patches if I can help too. For example, I ran into the sample.json issue as well and have a very temporary workaround in place, but if I had a better understanding of where this should come from, I could probably write the code to generate it as intended.
