Since I don't get a response from the maintainer of this module (mailed months ago) I offer to maintain this module.
Since may I've helped with issues and created two major patches for this module.
http://drupal.org/node/1167194
http://drupal.org/node/1171922
Addressing new feature requests, bug fixes and a lot of UX improvements. A lot is rewritten and the patches are tested by the community.
I've ported the complete module back to a new Drupal 6 version (which offers every function of the D7 version).
I would love to see these improvements available for a wider public and am willing to help or take over if the maintainer can't cope with it anymore.

torotil commentedAre you still willing to take maintainership of this module?
I think by now it would be fine to put this on the "webmasters queue" as described in point 4 here: http://drupal.org/node/251466 .

dmsmidtHi Torotil,
I received word from the maintainer on 11/29/11, stating that he "by no means plans on abandoning the module".
He made me a co-maintainer.
However before I wanted to dive into it I tried to discuss my given improvements first. But I received no mail back since.
I'm new with maintaining modules, and wanted to work together, I'm still willing to co-maintain this module.
Not sure about proceeding.

torotil commentedI'm not a maintainer (yet) either. But if there is no answer to your mails that means at least that there is no strong opposition to your plans. So I encourage you to just go ahead. After all Drupal is a do-o-cracy.
Also I think this issue can be closed then, so it's clear that this project is again actively maintained.
If you want I can also review your patches - since I've already had my "dive into this module" (see http://drupal.org/node/1487902 ).
