Everett Zufelt commentedI'm not sure if this is a bug, or not, but it definitely seems 'buggy' to me.
Upon creating a new node and entering '31 feb 2011' as the authored date, once saving the node the date is converted to 'Thu, 03/03/2011 - 00:00'. This is because the date is being validated / corrected on the server, and no validation at all is being performed client-side.
Bumping to 8.x as bugs are fixed there prior to being considered for backport to 7.x.

quietone commentedI tested this on Drupal 8.9.x and was not able to reproduce the problem. I entered an invalid date, 29 Feb 2019, clicked save, and got a message to enter a valid date.
Tested on Drupal 7.40, yes, I know it isn't the latest, and was able to enter an invalid date. Moving to Drupal 7.
