node breadcrumb being ignored?

Hi I created a node breadcrumb for node type=page , with:
Title:
[node:content-type]
[node:title]
Paths:
page
page/[node:nid]

but when a node is active, there is no BC.
Have I misunderstood the config, Any tips on troubleshooting this?
