Migrating from Microsoft Content Management Server 2002

Hi,

We're currently redeveloping a large website that is currently hosted in Microsoft Content Management Server 2002. The database schema for MCMS is pretty ugly from a content mapping point of view and it's very difficult to find any developer documentation of it or documentation on migration to anything other than a different Microsoft product (not such a surprise).

Has anyone had any experience migrating content out of one of these systems and can they point to any good online resources detailing how the database model works? I'm particularly interested to know how the database represents the page hierarchy and associations of content. We've got as far as isolating different records but it's proving really difficult to determine where the page relationships are defined. Makes me wonder if the CMS uses some sort of separate data cache to store page relationships outside of the database.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks,
Muthusamy

try site manager (NRClient.exe)

Through a stroke of {luck}, I happen to be working on a couple gigantic migrations off of MSCMS2002 (tho not to drupal, this time around). I'm equally new to the system and learning it... but I can bookmark this page and come back and offer tips as I figure things out on our end.

I haven't touched the db schema yet, but for your inquiry seeking clues about where else to look... try the mscms site manager, which manages "channels", etc. If your setup is like ours, you won't find this particular mgmt console in the programs menu of the server, rather go digging in program files until you find 'NRClient.exe' and pin it to the start menu.

msdn > cms assessment tool

Also, the results of running this cms assessment tool against the mscms02 instance might be of some value.
