The documentation states that this module provides an HTTP remote plugin for the Media module. Based on my limited experience with the Media module, since this module doesn't implement hook_media_parse(), it won't work with the edge version? Are there any other ways to handle remote HTTP files with the current state of Media module?

Integration is provided via a media browser plugin. The Media browser plugin was written for the 1.x version and just needs to be converted to use the new plugin syntax.
