I would like to introduce you to our new site http://www.erstenachhilfe.de (still only in Germany but...)

ErstenNachhilfe.de is a community portal for private tutors and students who are looking for or offering private lessons. Also for people who want to do a language exchange and are looking for partners.
They can meet here, publisch their offers and post articles in forum and blogs.

It is 98% Drupal :-). There is still a lot to do and we have quite a few other features to apply.

I want to thank for Drupal. It's really great and it was a very good decision to use drupal for our project.

may I ask you how log did you need to set up the site (from scratch)

I am new to Drupal and still evaluating if we can use it..

Hallo Daniel,
sorry for not responding more quickly.
Setting up Drupal was quite quick - may be a week but including time for learning the necessary things to know about the structure of Drupal.
Changing and adjusting the theme about a week, too.
Developing an extra module and certain changes which were necessary for the site may be another two weeks.
So, setting up the pure Drupal site is quite easy but adjusting it to your needs takes a while especially if you first have to get used to the system...

My German is not that great, but I like the site. I think it was an especially good choice to include both tandem partners and paid tutors. As you know, sites like livemocha don't allow this.

May I ask: are you operating as a non-profit? I see that you ask for donations if people have found tutors/students/partners.

Thanks for the information about the build time for the project. My friend and I have been using elgg (without prior experience with PHP) and the process has been months instead of weeks.

Hey Nate,

thanks for your reply. Our project is still non-profit but we work on changing that (Germans don't donate for services they get for free. I do: for drupal ;)

Concerning the developement of the site: As I wrote above, setting it up is quite easy and quick but getting it to your needs took us a while. It would be much quicker if a dropal pro does it (we were not).
