looks like there is a bug... shouldn't there displayed "Ignored (CVS)" ?

Localizer  Ignored  5.x-2.x-dev  5.x-1.8 (2007-Apr-16)

i have ignored the current 1.8 of localizer and have a newer dev version installed...

No, -dev isn't CVS, you downloaded a tarball. It's being ignored because you told it to.

But if i don't configure to ignore this 1.8 version, update_status tells me "Update available". It tries to tell me the 2.x module is lower than 1.8... i think 1.8 is lower then 2.0 - but possibly i missed something in math :-).

A release date is not all... maybe there are two branches maintained... 1.x and a 2.x and if 1.x will be released one day after 2.x it tells me to install an lower version, what may crash my site.

Yes, and it's because you're running -dev code and because the 'official' release is 1.8. So you're *supposed* to configure it to ignore that.
