Alpha Pager + Exposed Filter = wrong results

A view has an exposed filter, and I enter some text to narrow down the returned nodes.

The alpha pager still shows letters for any nodes - rather than just the current filtered set.
if i then click on one of the letters it shows the same node list result, no matter what pager letter i select.

so if i filter down my nodes to ones which contain the word 'Commission' in the title....
i get one jnode result. but whatever letter in the alpha pager i click, i always get the same result - really the resulting node should only appear under the 'A' page because it's full title is "Audit Commission".
