ONly displaying LARGE images

I was using "user badges" module with no problem, then today it stopped taking small images. I would try to upload a file thats 216x150 size of 36kb and the file uploads but is not displayed under user badges. It can however be seen in the badge directory. I then try a bunch of different images of multiple file types and sizes. usually images with dimensions over 500 would load fine, but anything smaller just uploads and won't display. I tried changing the resolution and file type on the image i want to upload but it never reads. Seems the only images that it will take are of wallpaper quality.

Any ideas on why this would happen?
