Server Config:
Nginx 1.0.11 Stable
PHP 5.3.8 (php-fpm)
GD2 and all needed modules are installed
The Problem:
If you add new image field, and assign some image style to it, the generated images are not created. They just don't appear in filesystem. As i've noticed, Drupal has changed the directory rights, on sites/sitename.com to read-only (r-xr-xr-x/555).
Tests:
We have tested two versions on the same host, 7.9 and 7.10. On 7.9 all works like a charm.

Thanks for taking the time to report this issue.
However, marking as duplicate of #873838: theme_image_style_preview() and image_requirements() should check whether style directories are writable.. Please join the discussion over there.
If you are new to drupal.org, it would help us if you would search for existing issues before submitting a new one. We strongly advise you search using the drupal.org search facility, because it really is very good. NOT a third party search engine (e.g. Google) as you may well not find what you are looking for.
