Just a thought. I'll probably wind up providing a patch for this sometime, since I do it so often - but if anyone has done any work on this, please post here!

johnpitcairn commentedKeeping it simple. I'm using Seven as a base admin theme, and adding a few of my own customizations in an inheriting theme. My clients are happy enough, and I've found this means I spend less time fixing little admin-theme problems. I'm also thinking this will aid the transition to Drupal 8 when that happens.
